Though this is already a pretty competitive market, the Dominican low-cost airline is launching operations in Florida and Puerto Rico. They’re hoping their one-way flights, starting from as cheap as $100, will entice Americans to book.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new Arajet flights to the DR, and which U.S. cities will be serviced:

$100 Flights To The DR From 3 U.S. Cities

Officially launched in 2022, Arajet has become a popular alternative to the (usually more expensive) full-service airlines that fly into and out of the Caribbean region, offering significantly cheaper airfares by cutting down on in-flight amenities.

This means you may not get the same plethora of entertainment options during your journey, and there may not be snacks included in your ticket price, but that’s a small price to pay (literally) for a 2h30 ordeal––by the way, that’s how long flights from Miami to Punta Cana take.

On that note, Miami is one of 3 U.S. cities that will be hosting Arajet planes this year.

Miami is often considered America’s gateway to Latin America, so it’s only natural that Arajet has chosen the south-facing hub as their U.S. entry point.

Starting April 11, they will operate multiple roundtrip flights weekly from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana.

For this route, a Boeing 737 MAX will be deployed, with 8 Premium Economy and 177 Economy Class seats configured. The total number of passengers per trip is 185, and the cheapest tickets in Economy reportedly cost $100.99.

Additionally, they will be landing in Puerto Rico later in the summer, linking San Juan, the capital of the U.S. territory, to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, from June 5.

Tickets from San Juan to Santo Domingo will cost even cheaper, starting at $83.09 one-way.

As for the third city, there are also plans to begin flights between New York and the DR ‘soon’––whether this would follow shortly in the fall is yet to be confirmed by Arajet spokespeople.

Where To Go In The DR This Spring

Santo Domingo is not only an administrative center, but a hugely-underrated cultural treasure of the Caribbean distinguished for being the first European-built settlement on this side of the pond, as early as 1496.

Its UNESCO-protected historic center is littered with landmarks dating back to the period of Spanish rule, including Zona Colonial itself, a maze of cobbled streets and Iberian-style plazas lined with brightly colored buildings, and a 16th-century fort built by Christopher Columbus himself.

A short 35-minute drive west of Santo Domingo, you’ll hit the lively beach town of Boca Chica, with golden sands hugged by azure waters and plenty of affordable accommodation options, such as Hotel Angel Gabriel, where a double room will set you back by $50-a-night on a weekend.

Punta Cana, on the other hand, is your classic coastal resort straddling the turquoise Caribbean, with a big choice of luxury all-inclusives and waterfront villas to its name: if the cultural aspect doesn’t really pique your interest and you simply want to relax, this is the place to go.

Tropicana Suites Deluxe has double rooms priced $260-a-night right on Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana’s most famous, due to its soft white sands and busy promenade peppered with beach bars, or if you’re a loyal Dreams customer, a 4-night stay at their Macao Beach all-inclusive will run you up $2,365.

If you’re looking for an adventure, the nearby Scape Park has a variety of activities on-site, including swimming in cenotes (like the ones in Mexico!) and zip-lining through the jungle, and a popular day trip to take is joining a speedboat tour to a paradisiacal Saona Island, from $82 on GetYourGuide.

As Trajet CEO Victor Pacheco told USA TODAY, they’re ‘very exicted’ to be ‘connecting the Americas, North and South, and Central America as well’.

Arajet will be squeezing its way into an already-crowded market, joining ranks with American, Delta, United, Southwest, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit, and Sun Country, but the fact this is a DR-based airline, with lower-than-average fares, could help it stand out to target customers.
