Utah boasts far more than cringey reality shows and ultra-strict colleges. In fact, Salt Lake City has become one of America’s trendiest cities and we all know Zion National Park is among the best in the nation for outdoor adventures.

But, what about Utah’s State Parks?

Last week, we reported on Utah’s mass overhaul of some prior duds, revamping 4 State Parks with new campgrounds and tiny homes.

Another park, however, doesn’t need any tweaks or upgrades as it’s even overtaken some of Utah’s National Parks in terms of annual visitors.

That would be Sand Hollow State Park, a seemingly hidden oasis with Caribbean blue waters, beachside cottages, and a 4-star resort.

Springtime In Sand Hollow: Fun, Sun, And Vivid Blue Waters

What better way to kick off spring than to hit up stunning landscapes and vivid blue waters with 70 – 80 degrees days?

Full disclosure: Sand Hollow receives over 1.5 million visitors, but a huge chunk of visitors make their way here in summer.

Spring sees a little cooler weather and fewer crowds, creating ample space on beaches (yes, Utah has beaches!), swimming, kayaking, fishing, and boating.

Not to mention, you’ll have a higher chance of scoring the perfect campsite if that’s why you’re here. And why wouldn’t it be?

Set outside of St. George, a city of roughly 105,000 residents, it’s tucked away just enough to enjoy many-a nights stargazing and roasting s’mores by the campfire (at designated fire rings, of course).

Despite its barren aesthetics, visitors might be surprised to see a rush of wildflower blooms, which gives the park even more visual appeal among the fiery red sandstone and paradisal waters.

Stay A While: A 4-Star Resort & Beachside Cottages

Sometimes, State Parks are one-and-done day trips or weekend getaways at best, but Sand Hollow is one of the few that invite you to stay a while.

Those looking to rough it have multiple camping options and there are RV hookups too, but the most enticing accommodations are Sand Hollow’s beachside cottages and a 4-star resort with 3 golf courses.

Guests can book one of two cottages directly through Sand Hollow’s website.

These are the most notable cottage amenities:

Sleeps up to 6

Full RV hook-up included

Kitchenette with modern appliances

Heating and A/C equipped

Full bathroom

Small patio and fire ring

Pets allowed (‘Cottage 1′ only)

As for Sand Hollow Resort, this grand resort is perhaps Utah’s best-kept secret. Whether you want to hit the links, relax poolside with an epic backdrop of scenic mountains, or get your adrenaline going with an ATV ride through the dunes, it’s nearly impossible to have a bad time.

Guests have unlimited access to the wondrous outdoors with plenty of activities to keep busy but it also serves as a great place to relax.

Given how tempting it is to stay longer than a weekend, you could actually knock out Sand Hollow and Zion in a single trip, as this resort is only a 40-minute drive away.

Booking a stay here is quite honestly overwhelming as each accommodation has its own name, so you’ll want to select carefully to make sure you’re booking a 4-bedroom ‘Villa’ rather than a single-bedroom suite or vice versa.

How To Reach Sand Hollow State Park & Price Of Admission

Given that Sand Hollow State Park is Utah’s most popular park, your first inclination likely leads you to believe you should fly into Utah.

Slim chance, actually.

Harry Reid International Airport - LAS

Salt Lake City is roughly 4 hours away as is Provo, but St. George does have its own airport. The problem is that there are very few flights here, so unless you’re flying direct from Phoenix, Denver, or Los Angeles, your best bet is to fly into “Sin City”.

Oh, the irony…

Las Vegas is only 2 hours from Sand Hollow, making for a relatively easy trip through the desert.

Once here, visitors are required to pay an entry fee. Non-residents are charged $30 per vehicle and there are various fees applied for campgrounds, which can be viewed here.
